On May 16th 2019, Caritas RWANDA, through USAID Gimbuka Program and in collaboration with Ruhango District launched a campaign on 1,000 days window for a period of one week. The ceremony took place in Ruhango Sector, Kigoma Health Center.
The Theme of the campaign was” IMINSI 1.000 YAMBERE Y’UBUZIMA BW’UMWANA, ISHINGIRO RY’UMURYANGO UHAMYE MU RWANDA” which means “the first 1,000 days in the life of a child, a foundation for a good family in Rwanda”
The Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs Mrs. Alphonsine MUKANGENZI was grateful to Caritas RWANDA for the significant support in malnutrition and stunting reduction among children under five in Ruhango District. She urged all parents present at the event to ensure that 1,000 days are implemented successfully by attending the Growth Monitoring and Promotion for children screening for malnutrition, and by adopting acquired knowledge in hygiene and sanitation, as well as their children feeding with balanced diet.
The deputy Secretary General of Caritas RWANDA addressing participants commended the support and collaboration with the District through Caritas Rwanda nutrition sensitive interventions in Ruhango District. He noted the importance for both men and women getting involved in nutrition, WASH and Health promotion activities in their villages for better development of their children. He ensured participants of Caritas RWANDA commitment to continue working with the District for Social and Economic Development of the Population.
Home Based Early Childhood Development (HBECD) supported by Caritas Rwanda USAID Gimbuka in Byimana Sector received educational kits and 10 hosting families received iron sheets to improve latrines of children enrolled in HBECD.
Caritas Rwanda USAID Gimbuka beneficiaries entertained participants through songs, drama and, a testimony from deviant family whose children were rehabilitated through Community Based Nutrition School was presented. The campaign continued in other sectors of Ruhango District till May 22nd 2019 and all institutions intervening in health and CAHIN partners in Ruhango District learned from Caritas RWANDA approach to 1,000 days window to improve families’ lives.
