Consultative meeting with heads of the emergency departments in Dioceses.

Fr. Yves speaks at the OSC MEETING

Consultative meeting with heads of the emergency departments in Dioceses.

Caritas Rwanda held a consultative meeting with heads of the emergency departments in Catholic dioceses of Rwanda on Monday 9th May, 2022 to discuss ways of improving animation campaigns in their respective dioceses. Hosted at Centre Pastoral Saint Paul, the meeting was also an opportunity to share with the heads of departments, updates from the 2022 Caritas Rwanda general assembly.

Led by Father Yves Sewadata, Deputy Secretary General of the Caritas Rwanda, the meeting’s main objective was to share best practices to promote and sustain the work related to animation and supporting the needy. Father Yves shared the report of activities accomplished through the emergency department, as presented to the 2022 general assembly. Participants discussed the various accomplishments as shared in the report, the budget used, success stories, challenges faced and proposed solutions to these challenges.

Sister Gaudiose Nyiraneza who is in charge of animation at Caritas Rwanda informed the participants that Caritas Rwanda will soon launch an initiative of visiting all dioceses to interact with the heads of the animation and emergency department  on the theme ‘’Being close to the needy: A duty for every christian’’. (Mk 14,7). This initiative also aims at meeting with the department’s beneficiaries and understanding the impact created so far.

Participants selected a committee that will support Sister Gaudiose to prepare a training manual that will be used during the visits and suggested that the month of ‘’love and compassion’’ might be added, as well as different challenges and corresponding exit mechanisms. The committee includes:

  • Sister Gaudiose Nyiraneza: Caritas Rwanda

  • Esperance Mujawamariya: Nyundo/Gisenyi Diocese

  • Gaspard Mutabazi: Nyundo/Kibuye Diocese

  • Antoine Murara: Gikongoro Diocese

Heads of department appreciated the opportunity created by Caritas Rwanda to meet and interact and suggested that at least every six month, a get-together should be organised. They also suggested that meetings of this kind should also be organised for the parish Caritas staff, to understand the challenges that they face and to find solutions through Caritas Rwanda’s support.

The meeting ended with a Prayer led by Fr Yves Sewadata at around 12:30.
